    1. Balancing blood sugar:

    Sugar & Sweets are one of the major concerns women have when it comes to foods. Overconsumption of sugar can cause an imbalance in blood sugar and hormones as the two are closely linked and affects vastly. (2)

    Sugar is an instant release carbohydrate and blood sugar rises quickly after the consumption. To ovulate and release an egg every month on time and to maintain the regular menstrual cycle, there is a complex fusion of certain hormones. Some foods help to increase fertility and help in getting pregnant faster. 

    2. Antioxidants:

    Surrounding the ovarian follicles is a follicular fluid that contains nutrients and hormones. Hormones and nutrients nourish the egg properly before it leaves the ovary. But, this fluid contains free radicals that may harm your egg. Nutritious foods that contain antioxidants are important and need to be added to your diet that help neutralizes the effects of free radicals. You can add Vitamins A, C, and E, as these Vitamins are antioxidants. The following foods are rich in these antioxidants (3):

    • Vitamin E- berries, citrus fruits, leafy greens, vegetables and red peppers (4)
    • Vitamin C- nuts and seeds (including their unprocessed oils)
    • Selenium- beef, chicken, pork, salmon, trout, broccoli and oranges (5)
    • Co-enzyme Q10- turkey, cod, halibut, salmon, sardines, tuna and brazil nuts
    • N-acetylcysteine- chicken, duck, pork, turkey, dairy, eggs, broccoli, onions and red peppers
    • Lycopene- guava, grapefruit, Sharon fruit, tomatoes, and watermelon
    • Zinc- beef, chicken, lamb, pork, spinach, oysters, pumpkin seeds, nuts
    • Myo-inositol found in beans, brown rice, lentils, citrus fruits, nuts, and seeds may help improve the follicular environment for the egg

    3. Balancing estrogen: 

    The imbalance of estrogen can affect the fertility of both men and women. Foreign estrogens are vastly found in our water and in our soil (as a result of pesticides) as well as in stuff and materials, such as plastic food and drink packaging that we use in our daily life. This may cause infertility and may raise problems when you are trying to conceive. (6)

    You should reduce the exposure to these is the one way to minimize their impact that supports your liver to help it detoxify. There are foods that can help balance estrogens.     4. Foods not to eat: 

    There are some foods that are worth avoiding when you are planning to get pregnant. Many women simply switch to low-fat foods believing that they will not gain weight through this, There is some startling evidence for how low-fat products can simply create problems in conception. This may cause infertility and may raise problems when you are trying to conceive.     5. Certain carbohydrates: 

    There are complex carbohydrates that are found in beans, vegetables, pulses and whole grains that are slowly broken down into glucose, which your body uses as fuel to gain energy. However, some simple carbohydrates that are found in refined sugars or artificial sweeteners release sugar into the bloodstream too quickly that cause insulin imbalance and mood swings. (8) This may cause infertility and may raise problems when you are trying to conceive. Simply try to cut down on fizzy drinks, sweets, cakes, and processed fruit juices. Some foods help to increase fertility and help in getting pregnant faster.

    Alcohol is very harmful while trying to conceive. It will have very adverse effect on your ovulation and also on your fertility window. In my opinion you should completely avoid all kinds of alcohol for this period.
